Appearance is a vital factor in a person’s life. On a daily basis people perform the same routine to make themselves more attractive. The characterization of a person as “beautiful”, whether on an individual basis or by community consensus, is often based on some combination of Inner Beauty, including psychological factors, and Outer Beauty, the so-called physical attractiveness.

Beauty in the eye of the Makeup Artist

Loore Harmat, who has been working as a make-up artist for 15 years, and is also a make-up teacher, feels Estonian women prefer modern and very natural makeup.

According to her, they don’t put on much in the way of foundations and eye shadows. The basics are a little foundation, under eye concealer, mascara, eye shadow, blush and lipstick. This year Harmat took part in Supernova 2009, a contest for young fashion designers, where she showed her best results.

“It was a very innovative and glamorous make-up show, where I, together with my assistants, did make-up for 100 models. It was quite hard work but I found it an interesting opportunity,” she said. Harmat noted that mineral makeup, such as the Jane Iredale brand, is getting popular in Estonia as well, because it’s very good for the skin and is made from natural ingredients.

“In my opinion now that autumn - winter make-up collections have been released, the colors have turned darker and so, Estonian women also prefer darker and sophisticated tones for eyes and lips,” Harmat explained. “I think that Estonian women are little bit afraid of very bright and shiny colors in comparison with all other Baltic states, where women use more bright colors. I mostly use lots of different techniques in my work such as smoky eyes and creamy eyehadows all mixed up together. I use my fingers to put on make-up base, because it shows the face very naturally.” “I do my own make up courses teaching women different make-up techniques and helping them to find their own style and colors. And I also teach how to become professional make up artist”.
