Crime Guide to Riga
Why didn’t Lonely Planet think of it first?
The Riga City Council’s Security and Order Committee is supporting a company called Safety Travel in its plan to make a map of Riga which points out Riga’s most crime-prone areas. Apparently, the first draft of the proposed map has already been prepared. The map is supposed to help tourists avoid hooliganism, pick pocketing, car theft, muggings, fraud, and, we presume, the 1,100 € bottle of champagne. (See the March issue of City Paper for an in-depth look at the issue of credit card fraud in Riga clubs).
