New Estonian government coalition promises lower taxes

As the punch line to the American joke goes, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.” But the Estonian government may just prove that isn’t one of the biggest lies in the world. Monday, Estonian political parties reached an agreement, according to which the income tax rate will be lowered to 18%.

PM Ansip said he believed cutting the income tax rate would enliven the economy. Let’s hope so. With last year’s growth over 11%, most are expecting and preparing for a possible slowdown.
