Stopping the Baltic Brain Drain
Lithuania’s solution
Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus hopes the project "Stay in Lithuania" will encourage youth to create their futures in Lithuania. As its name might suggest, the initiative is intended to encourage Lithuanian youth to remain in the country rather than accept higher-paying positions abroad. But the president is not naive and knows that catchy slogans (it’s surely catchy in the Lithuanian language) are not enough to stop the brain drain—he urges the coordinating of efforts between state and private enterprise. Surely, the other Baltic states—which face the very same problem—will be watching carefully.
