Painting posts Estonian auction record
Hooray for Johann Köler
The Baltic’s first international art auction broke all records of Estonian art auctions. Most impressive was the 1.3 million kroons paid for Johann Köler's (1826–1899) painting “Italian Landscape.” The painting’s final price exceeded the one million kroons paid for the previous record holder, Konrad Mägi’s painting “Capri.”
The auction’s chief organizer, Baltic Auction CEO Jaanus Võitla, said that the total turnover of the auction was a bit over 10 million kroons. Forty percent of the 220 objects on offer found new owners.
