This time for real

3,500 tenth grade pupils in Russian-language high schools in Estonia will have to start learning Estonian literature in Estonian beginning September 1. The Ministry of Education has recommended that the number of lessons on Estonian literature should be doubled. According to the current curriculum one lesson per week is designated on Estonian literature. According to Leino Lepp, a ministry counselor on minority education, in nearly half of the Russian-language schools in Tallinn Estonian literature has been taught during the past ten years as an experiment.
