Estonian Šmigun wins two golds
Estonian cross-country skier Kristina Šmigun became the first Estonian to win Olympic gold in Torino when she finished first in the 2 x 7.5 km race. Then on Thursday, she repeated the feat, winning the 10 km race. Ms. Šmigun was understandably happy: “I have trained like hell for the Olympic gold every day.”
Readers should keep their eyes on Šmigun who will also compete in the women’s 4 x 5 km relay (February 18) and the women’s 30 km freestyle (February 24).
The Estonian government awarded Šmigun one million kroons (64,000 euros) for her first win. City Paper has already sent her a t-shirt.
