Rich Estonian grannies?

Maybe a few. Half of deposits in Estonia belong to elderly.

Approximately half of deposit holders of Estonia’s largest commercial banks are people over 60. And in terms of deposit amounts, gramps and granny are in the lead—almost 14 billion kroons (895 million €).

A recent study carried out by the research agency Emor revealed 69% of pensioner families have savings of at least 638 euros, and one third of pensioners are able to save at least 32 euros a month for a specific aim. Mostly, they save in case of hard times (54%), in connection with health (23%), and for home repairs (23%). 23% of pensioners report that they are unable to save anything.
