Estonia sues its New York landlord

No rats that we know of, but the plumbing leaks.

New York magazine reported that Estonia paid more than 100,000 USD in rent and fees to get an East 52nd Street apartment for its UN ambassador, Tiina Intelmann. But when Ambassador Intelmann arrived, she found broken doors and windows, no gas service, and leaky plumbing. So when in America...sue. Estonia is suing the landlord, New Start, to get its money back—and also for slander, claiming the landlord told the neighbors that Ambassador Intelmann is “crazy.”

“It’s an unbelievable scandal,” New York reported Intelmann’s attorney as saying. “They’re here to work on issues like world peace, and yet they’ve been treated so bad.”
