Estonian construction booms
But when will we regret this kind of “quality”?
Total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries grew 26% in the domestic market in the first quarter. The production value of construction enterprises amounted to five billion kroons (320 MM euros). In the first quarter of 2006 building permits were granted for the construction of 2,153 dwellings.
Estonian construction enterprises operating in foreign countries were less successful with construction volume decreasing a fifth versus year ago. We wonder why. Could it be that poor construction standards and practices are not as highly valued outside Estonia? As the punch line to the Soviet joke about free health care went: I can get that quality for free anywhere in the world.
