Balts line up for MTV VJ job

1,744 Estonians, more than 2,000 Latvians, and more than 3,000 Lithuanians have applied for the Baltic MTV VJ job. (For readers too old to know or care, VJ is short for Video Jockey—a disk jockey-like person who introduces videos and wears hip clothing.) 500 will be chosen to enter the second phase of the competition which begin next week. The competition’s grand final will take place in Vilnius at MTV’s Baltic studio.

At last report, Estonian President Arnold Rüütel—who declined to sing a duet with R&B soul king James Brown—has not entered the contest.
