Tallink buys Silja Line for over 447 million euros
Estonia’s largest passenger shipping company AS Tallink Grupp has agreed to purchase Sea Containers Ltd.’s Baltic ferry subsidiary, Silja Oy, for over seven billion kroons in cash (447 million euros) and five million new Tallink common shares.
The transaction includes six of the eight ships held for sale by Sea Containers Ltd. including Symphony and Serenade, operated on the Stockholm-Helsinki route, and Europa, Festival, SeaWind and Skywind, operated on Stockholm-Turku, their staff, facilities and the Silja brand.
In an interview with Estonian state television, ETV, Tallink CEO, Enn Pant, said the ships would continue to sail under Finnish flags employing Finnish crews.
