State to include people’s opinions in state matters
The portal of civic initiative TOM—Täna Otsustan Mina (“Today I Decide”) will be used more extensively involved to decide Estonian state matters beginning in autumn.
An e-consultation feature will be added to allow ministries to consult with interest groups and civic organizations. Also, private individuals and NGOs will be able to present their views on draft laws.
Estonia is clearly on the vanguard of employing technology in the everyday lives of its citizens. We hope its governors will show like wisdom and courage and be able to resist the urge to use the new tool to tailor speeches and laws to the path of least resistance, creating watered-down, ineffective legislation.
