Estonia gets foreign workers from Ukraine
This time it only took the government nine months.
Workers entering Estonia from countries outside the EU has decreased somewhat this year, according to the Estonian Labor Market Board and the Citizenship and Migration Board. It’s much easier for workers to enter Estonia from EU states, though this is not a frequent occurence due to higher wages elsewhere in Europe. Those who do come to Estonia from the EU mostly come from Poland. EU citizens may work up to six months without registering. From outside the EU, Ukraine seems to be the most popular origin for workers. One case study: The construction company Rand & Tuulberg has 14 Ukrainian construction workers working for a month. “We consider this a pilot project,” said the company’s construction manager Priit Vakmann. Vakmann said it took nine months from the idea stage to when the Ukrainians arrived in Estonia. Their first application was denied by the economy ministry.
