Lithuania's lady leaders
An EU leader in female leadership
Lithuania is one of the leading countries in the European Union if ranked by the number of women serving in executive positions.
According to the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, 43 percent of all high level positions (legislators, government officials, and managers) were filled by women in 2005. The number of female leaders is higher only in Latvia (44 percent). On the average in the EU, women hold 32 percent of executive positions.
Long may the women rule. One prominent foreign businessman in Estonia has a policy of employing only women. “And don’t think it’s because they’re pretty,” he says. “It’s because they’re smarter and harder working than the men.” Perhaps the same is true in Lithuania.
