Another journalist shot in Russia

Russian journalist and author Anna Politkovskaya, a searing critic of the Kremlin and its Chechnya policies, was found dead this week in her apartment building. She had been shot in the head with a pistol.

Russia is one of the world’s more dangerous countries for journalists. At least 12 journalists have been killed in Russia in contract-style murders since 2000. Other sources put the number of journalists to have disappeared since Putin came to power at 19.
