Tallink's downward spiral
Cursed with the luck of Estonian Air?
This week, Tallink seems cursed by more than a low stock price. A poll by the Finnish TV channel MTV3 showed that in the eyes of 70% of Finns the reputation of Tallink has fallen due to the scandal with Tallink’s directors. The station reported almost every other respondent admitted to wanting never to order a single service from Tallink or Silja Line again. To add insult to injury, Tallink’s cargo ship Regal Star rammed into the ramp at the Helsinki port. Officials cited poor weather conditions.
Despite all this we’re optimists about Tallink. All of the problems they’ve experienced are correctible, if there’s a desire, and the core business is sound. If we were stock speculators, we might be buying now.
